Update #5

March 26th

Good day, gentleman.  I hope that your preparations for the"Celebration of Harmony" 2017 convention are going well.

To prepare a quality program for those attending the public concert on April 28th and/or the contest on the 29th, we need information and images from you.  Please send John Hildebrand (johnmh@live.ca) the following types of information on your chorus and on each quartet or VLQ from your chorus that will be competing in the contest and/or performing in the public concert:

  • historical background,
  • awards/honours,
  • regular programs that you lead, or in which you regularly participate, in your community,
  • interesting and/or humorous incidents in which members have been involved while actively "Barbershopping,"
  • moving or rewarding moments as Barbershoppers.

We plan to use this information in three ways:

  • as mentioned initially, for write-ups in the convention program,
  • as material for our MCs to use during the convention,
  • as material to be incorporated into (an) article(s) to appear in our local newspaper during the lead-up to the convention.

We would also like pictures of your choruses, quartets and VLQs.  These could be formal shots or performance shots in context.  Pictures will be placed in the program and, hopefully, at least a couple will be placed in the newspaper.

It would be most helpful if the requested information could be sent to John Hildebrand (johnmh@live.ca) no later than April 5th.

Thank you for your help in enabling us to well-introduce the division's Barbershoppers to the public here in the Fredericton area.

UPDATE #4

March 20th

UPDATE #3

March 10th

Good day, gentlemen.

What better way to start our "Celebration of Harmony" convention weekend than with a public concert on Friday evening to bring our talents before a wider audience!

The River Valley Chorus would very much like each chapter to participate in the concert and invites each of you to perform two or three songs at this event.  These songs could be presented by your full chorus, a quartet from your chorus, or some combination thereof.

The concert will take place in the Tom Morrison Theatre at Fredericton High School on Friday, April 28th.  It will begin at 7:30 p.m. and be of seventy or eighty minutes duration (with no intermission).  (Performing during the concert will help you become familiar with the stage and facilities where you will compete on Saturday.)

Please contact John Hildebrand (johnmh@live.ca) by the end of March with details concerning who will sing and what songs you have in mind.  In the meantime, if you have any questions, also please contact John.

UPDATE #2

March 6th

Good day, gentlemen! Greetings from sunny (yet still cold!) Fredericton!

This bulletin focuses on the registration spreadsheet that must be completed and submitted by each chapter planning to attend Sunrise's "Celebration of Harmony 2017."

DOWNLOAD THE REGISTRATION SPREADSHEET

The submission deadline is 8 Apr 2017 (but early submissions are good).  Submissions go to convention registrar, Charlie Wright, at teaganskye.cw@gmail.com.

Some points to keep in mind when completing the spreadsheet:

  • The registration fee is $30/contestant, regardless of the number of groups within which the contestant competes.
  • Please expand details (at the bottom of the spreadsheet) for contestants that are part of more than one entry in a category.
  • Please provide (at the bottom of the spreadsheet) the names of all quartets and VLQs.
  • When entering the names of guests, please separate with commas.
  • Lunch on Saturday will be served in the school cafeteria area and includes a hot portion.
  • Like guests who wish to partake, contestants need to pay for the Saturday lunch ($12) and Saturday evening banquet ($40).
  • Additionally, guests need to pay to attend one or both of the Friday evening concert ($15) and Saturday contest ($15).

The data submitted will be used to

  • prepare individual registration packets
  • prepare nametags
  • prepare tickets (e.g., meal tickets, guest admission tickets)
  • plan logistics (e.g., set the contest schedule, determine how many bottles of water are needed where)

Any questions regarding the registration process may be directed to Charlie Wright (teaganskye.cw@gmail.com).

See you all soon!
